<story>Coming down here with my mother 50 years ago, going into bIrbecks cafe we would have a sandwich and a cup of tea. I would get English style copys of American comics, I used to like cowboy comics. Then getting the bus back home. As I got older me and my mates would go into BIrbecks and all share one coffee until we were asked to leave. My daughter who is now 28 used to say all my dad knows is the market. The food is the best in Leeds, you always tend to see people that you know. They tried in the 80s to close it down, a company from Holland wanted to turn it into a modern style mall, but that never worked</story>

<story>About 1953 I was a conductress on the trams I went into this club, my mate met her boyfriend and he brought his mate, we then went to Woodhouse we started seeing each other for about 3 months and then he got called up for National Service, up until that point I hadnt been really happy, I had been one of 10 kids, but this was real happiness for the first time. Daftly just before he was due to return I got going with someone else, biggest mistake of my life. I still think about that chap.</story>

<story>There used to be a little park, and we had a back garden that opened into the Leeds Council Swimming Pool. A candy shop on the corner and picture house at the top watched the Lone Ranger, tom and jerry and famous five at matinees. You could walk in and out of houses then. I still remember all the neighbours. We were only 5 or 6 years old when we lived there. </story>
